Ammonium chloride is an acidic inorganic compound. It appears as a white, fine crystalline powder that is odorless and highly soluble in water.

Ammonium chloride is manufactured as a by-product from several chemical processes, in particular from Hou's process for the soda production process (used to produce sodium carbonate). It can also be manufactured directly from the reaction of hydrogen chloride.
