Cryolite is a mineral, sodium hexafluoroaluminate (Na3AlF6), white monoclinic (1009 degrees Celsius), slightly soluble in water, molten cryolite can dissolve alumina, used as a flux in the electrolytic aluminum industry, Opacifier for the manufacture of opalescent glass and enamel

 Charasters
        Colorless monoclinic crystals, often grayish white, reddish, yellowish, or black due to impurities. Relative density 2.9-3.0, melting point 1000°. Slightly soluble in water, aqueous solution is acidic. Decomposition of sulfuric acid releases toxic  gas.
 Usage: It is mainly used as a flux in the aluminium smelting by fused salt electrolysis; also an opalizer in the manufacture of enamel; an opacifier and auxiliary solvent of glass and enamel; an insecticide of crops; a flux in aluminium alloy casting; and in the production of ferrous alloy and effervescing steel.
